2008 Business New Year’s Resolutions

December 5, 2007 by Elizabeth Potts Weinstein

On Tuesday my Mastermind group met to discuss our goals for 2008 — but instead of just sharing my goals ($200K income, buying new house in the mountains), I wanted to set New Year’s Resolution-type Intentions for my busines & life in 2008.  And now, I’m sharing them with you … to keep me accountable to the blog-o-sphere, and help you think of some intentions that may be powerful for you in 2008.

  1. Read My Own Book and Follow My Own Gosh-Darn Advice.  Ah, the cobbler’s kids have no shoes.  If I just followed ALL the advice in my own book (Grow Up Strategies:  The 7 Legal & Financial Strategies You Need to Up-Level Your Small Business) my cash flow and business structure would be in much better shape.  I’m starting by committing to schedule Money Meetings (just like I would tell a client), instead of doing them "most" of the time.
  2. Focus / Say No More Than Yes.
    1. I’m not allowed to start any new businsses in 2008.  Oh, and I have so many ideas!  I know you want my help with marketing your financial planning business, tips for traveling with your toddler, getting out of Big Law Firms.  I know you would pay me money.  But no, I’m not going to start that in 2008.  No distractions from what I already have going on.
    2. No more information products for 6 months or until I implement everything, whichever takes longer.  I have a stack of boxes of home study courses with tons of amazing ideas that have not been fully reviewed.  Before I’m allowed to buy any more stuff, I got to get through this.
  3. Only One Change Each 30 Days.  I have tons of personal development goals (getting in shape, nutrition, sprituality, drink more water) that are not getting done because there are too many of them.  So every month I am going to make only one change.  For the month of December, I’m meditating each and every day (I now have so much focus and energy, wow!).

What are your intentions or resolutions for 2008?

    Hi Elizabeth,
your writing is very inspirational. I am at the very early stage of establishing an Internet business, where I collected so much information and am not able to digest it all … : )
I still work full time and that makes it really difficult for reading and learning at a faster pace. I have great interest in building relationships with like-minded people and hope that soon I’ll be in a position to divote more time for that. I would like to get your opinion on few things and wonder if I could do that via email? Many thanks. Mariyana

Thanks, I’m glad you enjoy reading the blog and get so much from it. Great luck on your new business! Yes, there is tons of info out there — my recommendation is to not get stuck — just take a few action steps at a time.

You can check out my other site http://growupstrategies.com/blog to learn about how you can work with me one-on-one.

    Thanks,
    Elizabeth
